Why Meditate?

The way I see it – we meditate for two main reasons – first to wake up – which means to discover what we are beyond the human body - and second - to let go of the “ego-person” – which means to stop identifying with and stop being controlled by - the physical, mental, emotional and conditioned bodies – while simultaneously allowing our awakening to deepen - until the ego-person is completely dissolved and merged in Source – at which time we navigate life on planet Earth – through this our True I - the wide open infinite Divine Presence that we are.

Awakening is neither mysterious nor complex. It is our True Self recognizing its own presence within us. THE most important “aha” moment we will ever have. The one who was seeking is at that moment seen to be nothing more than a bundle of thoughts roaming within. Meditation is communion with God – it is an experience taking place inside ourselves – and each of us must find our own way – our own individual communion.
But in order to awaken - the desire for it must be alive in you. And often this desire also needs to be desperate and passionate. The urge to awaken cannot be forced – and it is NOT a process of increasing levels of intellectual understanding. The only part the intellect / personal mind plays in awakening - is being a witness to the recognition – unless we are lucky and personal mind completely dissolves in the initial awakening – but this is very rare – and even if it did – as long as we are present through the human form – we must always be vigilant and watch out for the ego-person's many seductive attempts to return.
In addition - you will not awaken if it is just another fun or interesting thing on your to-do or bucket list. But if you have the deep and sincere longing to find the Ultimate Reality -then the door is open for Grace to come and bring you Home. It is a waste of time to engage in meditation when it feels like a chore – or you are doing it – just because it is on your schedule. When meditation feels like effort or is a check box item – it is meaningless – and will have no fruitful value. Meditation is only meaningful when you sincerely want it – long for the exploration – and love the adventure.
The last important thing to remember is how crucial patience is – along with kindness and compassion for the desire to awaken – Don’t beat yourself up when you feel a lack of progress – if you do - you are actively engaging the ego-person mind – the very entity we set out to let go of in meditation – so do not be frustrated – progress IS always happening – even when it is not noticeable to you. Let go of expectations - sink into trust and fall in love with meditation itself – and eventually this love for meditation - will be replaced with the love for the Sacred Silence – that you find – and ultimately know -yourself to BE.
